Splatt T Shirts of Nottingham

Getting Started

Welcome to Splatt's 'How to design your own' T shirt (and other products) web page.

When you first open the Designer you will see this view, currently a 'Men's Tee' has been chosen by default in the Product section (5),a light blue background behind the T shirt indicates it's been selected.

rsk11

To see all the products available you can click on the black arrow in the bottom right hand corner or click on the 'Select a Product' button (7) on the left hand side to view individual categories.

rsk12

The Product window (5) expands (if you clicked the arrow) to show all products available. You can then click on the product you require and it will be highlighted in the Product window and appear in the designer section below it (10).

rsk13

At this point you need to select the colour of your T shirt which is done by clicking one of the small squares in the 'Select a Product Colour' area (6) to the right of the available products.

You now need to decide where your design should be, click on (8) for the front or (9) for the back to be visible at (10).
You will now create text and / or add pictures into the area shown by the dotted line.

rsk14

Adding Text

Click on the 'Text' tab (2), the view in the panel below it now changes to allow you to decide what words you want, their colour, size, font, etc.

By default 'Create T....' (A) is active. Click your mouse in the box (B), a cursor should appear, what you type will appear simultaneously on the T shirt preview (10).

If you have chosen a Black or very dark T shirt you will need to change the 'Text Colour" (C) which by default is Black to a light colour in order for it to be visible.

rsk15

Select your text font (D) and then you can choose to make the text thicker with the (E) button, slope it with the (F) button and underline it with the (G) button, the buttons change colour to orange to show they are active.

Use the return button as you are typing to create a new line and use the buttons (H), (I) and (J) to left justify, centre justify or right justify respectively your text.

You can change the font, colour, justify etc after you have typed your text.

On the shirt preview (10) there are four tools to allow you to move the image.
The cross (W) will delete the text box (this can also be done with the 'DeleteT....'
tab below (A), be sure you mean to do this as there is no undo function.

The magnifying glass tool (X) opens a new window to show just the text, click on the 'close' button to return to the Designer.

The arrow with a circular tail tool (Y) allows you to rotate the text and the double headed arrow tool (Z) allows you to zoom in or out the size of the text. Make sure all the text remains within the dotted lines.
Finally you can move the whole text box by clicking your mouse in the text box area and holding it down, then move it to where you want within the dotted line area.

Clicking on the 'Preview (press and hold)' button (11) removes the tools and dotted lines to show you what your design will look like.

Adding Effects to text

The Text Effect box (K) allows you to manipulate the text e.g. mirror reflection and various curves, click on the arrow and scroll down to the one you like, experiment with them to see which one is most suitable, you can then click on the arrow in the 'Setting' box (L) and scroll down to the variations available on the theme you've chosen.

You then have further options to put one or two coloured borders around the text.
Firstly click the box (M) next to 'Outline 1' and a tick should appear, then click box (N) and a colour grid should appear, click on the colour you want and then the colour grid will close, then use the up / down arrows (O) to change the thickness of the border to your preference.
Repeat the process for Outline 2 if you want to create two coloured outlines around the text.

Adding artwork

Click on the Artwork tab (3), you can then click on the 'Select an Artwork' button (T) to search by category or click on the arrow (U) to reveal all the designs and then scroll down to the one you want. Hovering the mouse over the design will reveal an enlarged preview.
Click on the one you want and it will appear in the T shirt preview window (10).
As with the text window, you can move, rotate, resize etc the artwork.

rsk17

You can also change its colour with the 'Select an artwork colour' button (V).

Adding your own artwork

rsk19

Click on the 'Upload your artwork' tab (4), then click on the 'Click here to upload...' button (S).
Uploaded designs will appear in the window marked (R).

rsk20

A pop-up window will ask you to accept upload Terms and Conditions, then a chequer board window (15) will open where you have to click on the 'Click here to upload your Artwork' button (16), this then opens a Finder box on your computer where you navigate to the relevant file and 'Open' it, you will see the design appear on the chequer board (15).
Please read the guide to best formats to use in the top box. The chequer board shows transparency. The grey and white squares show what is effectively 'see through' on the final design; if your artwork has a background colour that covers these squares then it will appear on the shirt.

You can click on a particular colour and reduce it's intensity with the sensitivity slider (17) if you wish, e.g. a solid background colour that you don't want, then click on the 'Add to Design' button (18).
The 'Upload your artwork' window then reappears with your artwork available to click on (R) to add to the T shirt Preview (10).

An example of what you can do

The shirt below has the text 'Design your own T shirt' with the relevant line breaks, these were centre justified and then curved with the effects box and a light green colour text selected.
Two outline colours were chosen: Pink 19 points wide and yellow 8 points wide.
A speech balloon was added from the 'Balloons' section of the Artwork page, then 'IT'S EASY' artwork was uploaded and placed on top of the speech balloon.

Finishing your T shirt

Once you have finished designing your T shirt you might decide to share it with other friends who can modify your design e.g. if a group of friends are on a Stag or Hen night you often wear the same basic design of shirt but probably with your own name on the T shirt you buy.
You can share your design with friends by clicking on the 'Click to share' button (14) where you can name the design then e-mail it to your friends via a variety of social networks or e-mail it directly before continuing to the checkout.

The boxes at position (12) allow you to choose size and quantity and the boxes at position (13) allow you to add them to the Shopping Cart, plus there is a 'Help' button which opens up a separate Help window.

Enjoy designing your own unique T shirt, hoodie etc.

Ordering many Tees of the same design with small changes e.g.
Stag Night, Hen Night and Party T shirts

This is useful to avoid having to redesign your T shirt from scratch each time, for example if you are ordering many T shirts for a Stag night such as "Dave's Stag Night" which is on the front of the T shirt and where Dave has put his own name on the back.
All his mates will want to have the same design on the front of their T shirts but their own name on the back.

Create your first T shirt in the designer with the first person's name on the back.
